Handcrafted by the skilled craftsmen and women of Kozhikode, this contemporary artwork celebrates the local architectural materials of Natural Fibre and Wood with hints of Gold to honor the cultural and historical importance of this metal in Kerala, through the Starbucks Coffee Story.

The elaborate weaving and fabrication of the coffee botanicals in Cane is a result of an extensive process of handcrafting by the artisans of Malappuram, every piece comes together to create a composition of consequence. The Wood textured pieces in abstract forms, crafted in collaboration with the artisans in and around Quilandi, was designed to fit like a perfect puzzle to allow a spontaneous organic flow breaking away from rigidity of traditional forms.

The openness of the artisans to explore new and modern techniques and co-create our imaginations is what made such a meticulous artwork possible. Such co-creations keep the essence of the culture and crafts of Kozhikode alive, while allowing for innovation to open new markets.
