Starbucks Gandhinagar, Jammu
Situated in the city that is called the 'Paradise on Earth', the ideation of this artwork revolved mostly around depicting the mesmerising scenic beauty and rare flowerbeds of Jammu while also celebrating the origins of Starbucks'coffee with local crafts.
A coffee garden, the inspiration for the mural design comes from different art and crafts of the state, which includes the intricate Kashida embroidery and the famous traditional Papier-mâché.
The Sumatran Tigers representing the Asia Pacific Coffee region where Starbucks' coffee is grown, are done in Kashida embroidery. Other embroidered elements such as mushrooms and herbs represents the earthy, bold and herbal flavors from this coffee growing region. Representing local botanicals we have embroidered Purple Saffron flowers and Nadru, Lotus stems as it grows extensively in the state along with it being a famous delicacy there. The coffee cherries are made by local Papier-mâché artisans in bright shades of red.
The bright colors, playful nature and spontaneous organic shapes deliberately break away from the rigidity of traditional forms. This contemporary co-creation keeps the essence of local materials and crafts alive, while allowing for innovation to open new markets.
