Starbucks Flagship, Brahmaputra River Front, Guwahati
Situated at the riverfront of the mighty Brahmaputra, the ideation of this artwork revolved mostly around sculpting together the waves of the river and the coffee elements of Starbucks.
Reflection of the waves of the Brahmaputra indoors to create a relatable mood for the audience while the floating coffee branches tell the story of how Starbucks has blended into the lifestyle here.
Sculpted by the traditional craftsmen of the Brass Metal industry of Sarthebari in Assam, this contemporary piece of art celebrates the traditional crafts of Assam using the local materials of Brass and Clay.
Meticulously made harmonic compositions which are a result of an extensive and elaborate process of hand done metal sculpting, comes together to create a piece of consequence. The Coffee cherries and leaves made in Clay deliberately break away from the rigidity of traditional forms to allow a organic flow. The Coffee flowers and Waves in Brass, known as Pitol in Assamese, amplifies that spontaneous flow.
This contemporary co-creation keeps the essence of the Traditional crafts of Assam alive, while allowing the blend of modern culture.
