Starbucks Rajpur Road, Dehradun

The vision behind the artwork is to create a beautuiful coffee garden in the middle of the luscious valleys of Dehradun, celebrating the origins of Starbucks' coffee with local materials and crafts.

The three animals represent the regions where Starbucks' coffee is harvested, namely, the Sumatran Tiger, the Kenyan Elephant and the Quetzal Bird from Guatemala. The animals are hand tufted by traditional craftsmen in wool that is locally souced. The coffee leaves, flowers and cherries at the back come straight out of a Starbucks reserve, also made in the form of hand tufted woollen carpets.

These designs deliberately break away from the rigidity of traditional forms, to allow for a spontaneous flow of organic shapes, lines and textures. This contemporary co-creation keeps the essence of local materials and crafts alive, while allowing for innovation to open new markets.
