Starbucks Taj Eatery, Agra
Situated in close proximity to the marvelous Taj Mahal, the ideation of this artwork is highly inspired by shapes and details seen at the Taj, while also celebrating the origins of Starbucks' coffee with local crafts.
A contemporary wall-art embroidered by the Zardozi artisans of Agra, using their traditional embellishments like badla, salmais, dabka, sitara, nakshi and techniques native to the craft. The elaborate and vibrant embroidery of the symbolic Starbucks' Siren on a canvas cotton base is done in colors inspired by the carvings of the Taj. The coffee botanical are inspired by the symmetrical botanicals seen throughout the monument.
The entire artwork is placed on a 2 part frame shaped like the large doorways at the Taj, an age-old architectural element iconic to the Mughals. Such a contemporary co-creation keeps the essence of the Traditional crafts of Agra alive, while allowing for innovation to open new markets.
